Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am Yahveh.
Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and you shall keep it a feast to Yahveh throughout your generations; you shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Exodus 12:15 Seven days shall you eat unleavened bread; even the first day you shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Isreal.
Exodus 12:16 And in the first day there shall be an Holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an Holy convocation to you, no manner of work shall be done in them, only that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
Preparing for Passover
During the days before Passover, ALL Leavened items are removed from the home. These include all breads and cakes that contain YEAST. Preparation begins with a thorough cleaning.
Consider ourselves
Let us also ready our hearts for the Passover Seder (the order of service), We must consider ourselves as having personally been freed from Egypt. As we prepare for this experience of personal redemption, let us put far from us the leaven of sin hidden within our hearts.
Haggadah means the telling
Passover is a story that has been retold for thousands of years. It is a story of miraculous transitions, as from slavery to freedom, from despair to hope, from darkness to light. Its greatness is the greatness of Yahveh. Its timelessness comes from the eternal truth of Yahveh’s involvement with His people. As Yahveh cared for the children of Isreal in ancient times, Yahveh cares for all who are His today.
The Table
Upon the table is a Seder plate, holding the ceremonial items of Passover. There are bitter herbs, a sweet apple mixture, parsley, lamb; all are part of the telling. Let us allow our senses to fully participate, taking in the sights and smells, tasting each ingredient, listening to every word. Let us see, hear, and fell the truth of Yah’s love.
Old and New Testaments teach this very thing
One of Mashiach’s last earthly acts was the celbration of the Passover. Gathering His disciples in a small room in Jerusale, Yashua led them in a Seder.
Luke 22:11 And you shall say unto the Goodman of the house, The Master said unto you, Where is the guest chamber, where I shall eat the Passover with My disciples?
Luke 22:12 And he shall show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready.
Luke 22:13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them; and they made ready the Passover.
Luke 22:14 And when the hour was come, Yashua sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.
Luke 22:15 Yashua said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer:
It was there, in the context of this celebration that Yashua revealed to them the mystery of Yahveh’s plan of redemption. Yashua spoke to them of His body and Blood. Yashua explained to them that He would have to die. This was no coincidence that Mashiach chose the Passover For in the story of the Passover lamb, Yashua could best communicate the course He would be taking over the confusing hours that were to follow. Here, as we participate together in the Passover Seder, May we experience once again Yahveh’s great redemption.
Lighting the candles
Psalm 27:1 Yahveh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahveh is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

As we kindle the festival lights, we pray for the illumination of the Spirit of Yahveh to bring great personal meaning to this our Passover celebration.
A Woman

Blessed are you Yahveh King of the universe, who has set us apart by His Word, and in whose Name we light the festival lights.
Leader
As light for the festival of redemption is kindled by the hand of a woman, we remember that our Redeemer, the Light of the world, came into the world as the promised seed of a woman.
Genesis 3:14 Yahveh, God said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life:
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.
The three cups of wine
Exodus 6:1 Yahveh said unto Moses, Now shall you see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.

As Yahveh spoke these words of encouragement to Moses, Yahveh revealed to His servant the plan by which He would redeem the children of Isreal.

Exodus 6:6-7 “...I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians...I will free you from being slaves...I will redeem you with an outstretched arm...I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God...”

At Passover, we celbrate these promises of redemption and relationship by drinking from our cups three times. With each cup Let us remember the union that Yahveh desires with us.
The cup of Sanctification

Let us drink of this first cup.
Washing of our hands
Psalm 24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of Yahveh? or who shall stand in His Holy Place?
Psalm 24:4 He that has clean hands, and a pur heart; who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor worn deceitfully
Psalm 24:5 He shall receive the blessing from Yahveh, and righteousness from God of his salvation.

Let us now offer the bowl of water to one another and share in this hand washing ceremony.

Let us also reflect upon the gesture of humility and the lesson of commitment made by Yashua HaMashiach, when, on the night, He laid aside His garments and girded Himself with a towel.
John 13:4 Yashua rose from supper, and laid aside His garments; and took a towel, and gided Himself.
John 13:5 After that He poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith He was girded.

Passover is a holiday that comes in the springtime, when the earth is becoming green with life. This vegetable, called Karpas, represents life Created and sustained by the Almighty Yahveh.
(Lifting up the salt water)
But life in Egypt for the children of Isreal was a life of pain, suffering, and tears, represented by this salt water. Let us take a sprig of parsley and dip it into the salt water, remembering that life is sometimes immersed in tears.

Exodus 12:28 And the children of Isreal went away, and did as Yahveh had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

How different this night is from all other nights!
On all other nights we eat bread or Matzah. On this night why do we eat only Matzah?
On all other nights we eat all kinds of vegetables. On this night why do we eat only bitter herbs?
On all other nights we do not dip our vegetables even once. On this night why do we dip them twice?
On all other nights we eat our meals sitting or reclining. On this night why do we eat only reclining?
We answer the questions
Exodus 12:24 And you shall observe this thing for an ordinance to yourself and to your sons for ever.

It is a duty and a privilege to answer the four questions of Passover and to recite the mighty works of our faithful Yahveh.
The Matzah (unleavened bread)
On all other nights we eat bread with leaven, but on Passover we eat only Matzah, unleavened bread. As the children of Isreal fled from Egypt. They did not have time for their dough to rise. Instead, the hot desert sun baked it flat. But even more than that, the scriptures teach us that leaven symbolizes sin.

1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Yashua our Passover is sacrificed for us.
Exodus 12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exodus 12:17 And you shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt; therefore shall you observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
Exodus 12:20 You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall you eat unleavened bread.
During this season of Passover, let us break our old habits if sin and selfishness and begin a fresh, new, and Holy life.

This is the bread of affliction, the poor bread which our fathers ate in the land of Egypt. Let all who are hungry come and eat. Let all who are in need share in the hope of Passover. Three Matzot are wrapped together for Passover. There are various explanations or this ceremony. The rabbis call these three a unity. Some consider it a unity of the patriarchs, Avraham, Isaac and Jacob. Others explain it as a unity of worship, the priest, the Levites and the people of Isreal. We who know Yashua the HaMashiach can see in this the unique tri-unity of God - Father, Son and Spirit. Three in one. In the Matzah we can see a picture of Mashiach. See it is striped.

Isaiah 53:5 But Yashua was wounded for our transgressions. Yashua was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

Just as the middle piece of bread of affliction is broken, Yashua also was afflicted and broken. One Half is now called the (Afikomen) “the coming one.” It is wrapped in a white cloth just as Yashua’s body was wrapped for burial. ...

If the children will cover their eyes, I will hide the Afikomen.

Just as I have hidden the Afikomen, so Yashua was placed in the tomb, and hidden for a time. But just as the Afikomen will return to complete our Passover Seder, so the sinless Mashiach rose from the dead to ascend into heaven.

On all other nights we eat all kinds of vegetables, but on Passover we eat only Maror, bitter herbs. As sweet as our lives are today, let us still remember how bitter life was for the children of Isreal in the land of Egypt.
Exodus 1:11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to affict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
Exodus 1:12 But the more they afficted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Isreal.
Exodus 1:13 And the Egyptians made the children of Isreal to serve the cruelty:
Exodus 1:14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field; all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with cruelty.

As we scoop Maror onto a piece of Matzah, let us allow the bitter taste to cause us to shed tears of compassion for the sorrow that our ancestors knew thousands of years ago.

The Kharoset

The children of Isreal toiled to make treasure cities for pharaoh, working in brick and clay. We remember this task in a mixture call Kharoset, made from chopped apples, honey, nuts, and wine. Let us once again scoop some bitter herbs onto a small piece of Matzah. But this time, before we eat, let us dip the herbs into the sweet Kharoset.

We dip the bitter herbs into Kharoset to remind ourselves that even the most bitter of circumstances can be sweetened by the hope we have in Yahveh.

Mark 14:18 And as they sat and did eat, Yashua said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eats with Me shall betray Me.
Mark 14:19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto Yashua one by one, is it I? and another said, is it I?
Mark 14:20 And Yashua answered and said unto them, it is one of the twelve, that dips with Me in the dish.
Satan hates Passover and all who do it.
Tonight we recline
On all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but tonight we eat reclining. The first Passover was celebrated by a people enslaved.

Once we were slaves, but now we are free!

The children of Isreal were instructed to eat the Passover in haste, their loins girded, and their staffs in their hands, their sandals upon their fee, awaiting departure from the bondage of Egypt. Today we all may recline and freely enjoy the Passover seder.

The story of Passover
Exodus 6:5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Isreal, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.

The story of Passover is a story of miracles, a story of redemption, a story of the mighty power of Yahveh to overcome evil.
Reader 1
Yahveh had promised the land of Isreal to Avraham, Isaac and Jacob. Yet here were their children in Egypt. The Pharaoh who had come to power feared them. These foreigners in our midst are prospering and have grown numberous, he thought. Suppose they join with our enemies and turn against us! Pharaoh decided to exert greater control over this people, imposing harsh and bitter slavery upon the Israelites. Still, Yahveh blessed His People in strength and number.
Reader 2
Pharaoh grew more frightened and ordered every baby boy among the Israelites to be drowned in the Nile River. One Israelite couple his their little boy for three months. Finally, entrusting his future to Yahveh, they set him in a basket and placed him upon the river. His sister, miriam, watched as he floated downstream. Coming upon the basket, Pharaoh’s daughter took pity on the child and chose to raise him as her own son. She called him Moses, meaning “drawn from the water”.
Reader 3
Moses grew and became aware of the travail of his people. One day, in a rage, he lost control of himself and killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew slave. Fleeing the palace and the eye of Pharaoh. Moses became a shepherd in the land of Midian, far from the cities of his suffering brothers.

Yahveh, however, saw the affliction of the children of Isreal and heard their groaning. Yahveh would raise up a deliverer to lead them out of bondage. It was then that Yahveh appeared to Moses in the middle of a bush that burned with fir, Yet was not consumed. Moses drew close and listened as Yahveh commissioned him to go to Pharaoh, Fearful and reluctant, still Moses agreed to bring Yahveh’s message to the king of Egypt, “Let my People Go”.

Exodus 3:4 And when Yahveh saw that Moses turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the middle of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses, And he said, Here am I.
Exodus 3:5 Yahveh said, Draw not near; put off your shoes from off your fee, for the place whereon You stand is Holy Ground.
Exodus 3:6 Moreover Yahveh said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Issac and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon Yahveh.
Exodus 3:7 And Yahveh said, I have surely seen the affliction of My People which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows.
The cup of plagues

Moses left the wilderness to return to Pharaoh’s palace, the very place where he had been raised. He returned with the message which Yahveh had given him. But Yahveh Himself warned Moses of the resistance the he would encounter.

Exodus 3:19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.
Exodus 3:20 And I will stretch out My Hand, and smite Egypt with all My Wonders which I will do in the middle thereof; and after that he will let you go.
Exodus 3:21 And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall come to pass, that, when you go, you shall not go empty;

yahveh sent plagues, one by one, yet with each plague, Pharaoh hardened his heart. The Egyptians became afflicted with discomfort and disease, bane and blight. Still Pharaoh would not relent. With the tenth and most awful plague. Yahveh pierced through the hardness of Pharaoh’s impenetrable heart.

Let us fill our cups a second time. A full cup is a symbol of joy and indeed we are filled with joy at Yahvehs’ mighty deliverance. But let us also remember the great cost at which redemption was purchased. Lives were sacrificed to bring about the release of Yahveh’s people from the slavery of Egypt. But a far greater price purchased our redemption from slavery to sin---the death of Yashua HaMashiach.
As we recount each plague, let us dip a little finger into the cup, allowing a drop of liquid to fall, reducing the fullness of our cup of joy this night.

BLOOD! Frogs! Lice! Beasts! Cattle Disease! Boils! Hail! Locusts! Darkness! Death of the Firstborn!
The Passover Lamb (Pesakh)
All
We have eaten the Matzah to remind us of the haste with which the children of Isreal fled Egypt. We have tasted the bitter herbs to remind us of the bitter slavery they experienced there.
Leader
This roasted lamb represents the lamb whose blood marked the houses of the children of Isreal, signifying their obedience to Yahveh’s command.
Reader 5
On the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each house hold. The animals you choose must be year old males without defect.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Yashua coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.
John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
John 1:35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples
John 1:36 And looking upon Yashua as He walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God!
John 1:37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Yashua.
Exodus 12:3, 5-7 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Isreal must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and top of the door frames of the house where they eat the lambs.

Exodus 12:8, 11, 13 That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with the bitter herbs and bread made without yeast. This is how you are to eat it; with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on you feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is Yahvehs’ Passover. The blood will be a sign for you on the house where you are. Like the blood of Yashua over your body His house. And when I see the Blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
In like manner Yashua did this for you and I.
Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which He has purchased with his own blood.
Romans 3:25 Whom Yahveh has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of Yahveh:

We are reminded by Moses that it was the Lord Himself who redeemed the children of Isreal from slavery.
Deuteronomy 26:8 And Yahveh brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders.
On that same night I will pass through Egypt.

We who have trusted Yashua the Mashiach, Believe He is the Lamb of Yahveh, our Passover. Like the ancient Israelites, we know that it was Yahveh Himself, and not an angel, Yahveh Himself, and not a seraph, Yahveh Himself, and not a messenger, who achieved final redemption from sin and death. Yahveh Himself, through Yashua, who takes away the sin of the world.

The Afikomen
Isaiah 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

It is time for us to share the Afikomen, the dessert, the final food eaten at Passover, it is shared as the Passover lamb was shared from the time of the exodus until the destruction of the temple. It is said that the taste of the Afikomen should linger in our mouths. Mashiach Yashua broke Matzah and gave thanks to Yahveh.

It was Mashiach that added these words.
Luke 22:19 Yashua took matzah, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave unto them, saying, This is My Body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me.
When we eat the Matzah we should remember Yashua’s sacrifice, the way they tore His body with the whip.
Let us now eat the Matzah, meditating on the broken body of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Let us allow the taste to linger in our mouths.
The cup of redemption
Exodus 6:6 Wherefore say unto the children of Isreal, I am YAHVEH, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

Let us fill our cups for the third time this evening. (Lifting the cups) This is the cup of redemption, symbolizing the Blood of the Passover lamb. It was the cup “after supper” with which Mashiach identified Himself. The Prophet Isaiah reminds us from Isaiah 59:1 Surely the arm of Yahveh is not too short to save... It is our own righteousness that falls short.
Isaiah 59:16 And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor; therefore His arm brought salvation unto Him; and His righteousness, it sustained him.
Yashua HaMashiach lifted the cup saying,
Like 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying. This cup is the new testament in My Blood, which is shed for you.
Just as the blood of the lamb brought salvation in Egypt, so Mashiach’s redeeming death can bring salvation to all who believe.

Let’s all drink and remember Yashua’s Blood flowed for us.
Before the birth of John the Baptizer, an angel of Yahveh said.
Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the sidom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Later Yashua spoke of John.
Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
Matthew 11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
Matthew 11:14 And if you will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
Matthew 11:15 He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
It was this same John who saw Yashua and declared.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Yashua coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.
John 1:30 This is He of Whom I said, After me comes a man which is preferred before me; for He was before me.
John 1:31 And I knew Him not: but that He should be made manifest to Isreal, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
John 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon Yashua.
John 1:33 And I knew Him not; but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
This is why we do not drink the cup of Elijah.
Our Passover Seder is now complete. May we always remember the sacrifice Messiah gave for us.
Lashnah haba’ah bi Yerusalayim.
